In today’s interview I get to speak with urologist and male sexual health expert, Dr Judson Brandeis, about erectile dysfunction, which is a common health issue many men are reluctant to talk about.
Many men with erectile dysfunction will take medication, such as, Viagra which will simply put a patch on the problem.
Judson explains how GAINSWave Shock Wave Therapy (especially when combined with other modalities) will get to the root cause of the issue.
We also discuss prostate cancer side-effects and what men who might suffer erectile dysfunction after prostate cancer treatment can do.
- What is erectile dysfunction and how to know if you have it
- What are the three different types of erectile dysfunction
- What is the difference between a low libido vs erectile dysfunction
- What are some treatment options
- What is GAINSWave and how does it fix the root cause of erectile dysfunction
- Why are night time erections important
- How to maintain good penile health as men age
- What are the benefits of nitric oxide supplements
Then this interview is for them.
I really enjoyed this interview with Dr Brandeis and learned a lot about how to maintain and restore sexual health as men age.
Special thanks to Judson for joining me on the show.
Enjoy the episode!

[00:42] – Introducing Dr Judson Brandeis, a urologist who has been in practice for more than 20 years and has always been on the cutting edge of urology. He has appeared on various TV shows and now dedicates his practice to full-time sexual medicine, including using the latest technology called GAINSWave for erectile dysfunction.
[01:36] – Judson explains that people should not be embarrassed to discuss this issue as it is a normal part of ageing caused by a loss of blood flow to the penis. It can also arise as a result of prostate cancer treatment.
[Biohackers Lab tip: Listen to Dr Ron Erhlich share his experience of dealing with prostate cancer and what he did after.][03:02] – Most people consider erectile dysfunction to be an inability to have penetrative intercourse.
[03:32] – How to know if you have a problem? There are different types of erectile dysfunction with the most common being vasculogenic (the other two are neurogenic and psychogenic). Diagnostic methods include a duplex ultrasound and the abdominal ultrasound.
[05:41] – Both type 1 and type 2 diabetics are more prone to erectile dysfunction. Judson explains that this is due to both the nerve function and vascular problems in diabetes patients.
[08:27] – Erectile dysfunction can be a first symptom of blood flow problems. Studies show that seven years from the onset of erectile dysfunction there is a 15% chance patients will suffer from a major cardiac event.
[09:56] – Low libido vs erectile dysfunction. Low libido is caused by low testosterone hormone, which also declines over time. While this is different to the ability to achieve an erection, it is another important part of maintaining erections.
[11:11] – Diet can affect sex drive by increasing levels of testosterone.
[12:14] – There are different treatment options for different types of dysfunction. PDE5 inhibitors like Viagra tend to be the first thing people try but this does not address underlying issues and fix the problem. Judson explains one of the easiest things we can do is improve levels of nitric oxide.
[14:11] – By preventing the uptake of nitric oxide, Viagra (along with taking nitric oxides themselves) can improve levels and improve the signal. The second aspect is to improve the blood flow which can be achieved using GAINSWave; a low intensity shock wave therapy.
[17:14] – The shock wave therapy is done on the pineal archway which can get calcified/blocked. Watch the YouTube video of this interview to see Judson demonstrate how this works using a model.
[19:30] – GAINSWave shock wave therapy will stimulate the growth of new blood vessels or the increase in size of the existing ones.
[20:28] – Many of the treatments for erectile dysfunction are uncomfortable, GAINSWave isn’t. For people watching on YouTube, Judson demonstrates how the GAINSWave device works.
[23:15] – For men with mild erectile dysfunction who take Viagra the stress around maintaining erections can be very counterproductive. GAINSWave therapy will fix the root of the problem so that Viagra is no longer necessary.
[24:56] – Success with this treatment can be seen in as little as 6 sessions of 20 min. Ongoing studies are following patients to understand the rate of decay of the efficacy of the treatment in different individuals and develop patient specific protocols.
[27:39] – Another critical aspect are night time erections. Judson explains why the stretching of the penis at night is essential to keep the tissue healthy and retain its length.
[30:25] – An easy way to fix the problem of penile length shortening is the use of penile stretching devices. For those watching on YouTube Judson demonstrates the device and how to use it for best results.
[33:03] – For some men, such as individuals with prostate cancer, who lost the ability to keep an erection, Judson explain how to use the pump with a ring to maintain an erection.
[34:45] – Judson does a Facebook live with real patients following them every week, for 12 weeks and talks about all these issues. People can tune in and watch the consultations.
[36:39] – How do you maintain good penile health before problems start? There is a lot of advice about eating right, exercising, not drinking or smoking, keeping cholesterol under control etc. However, at forty there are other important things we can do e.g. take a nitric oxide booster.
[40:15] – An important sign of good penile health is maintaining morning erections. In your twenties – every morning, thirties – four to five times a week, forties – every two or three days. A nitric oxide booster helps with this.
[40:58] – Judson recommends the AFFIRM nitric oxide booster. He explains why he recommends this supplement, the best way to take it and how the ingredients work. Other benefits include reducing the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s and improving blood flow.
[45:45] – Other things, Judson explains, that are important for preventing erectile dysfunction are all the things that maintain general health. GAINSWave is a great treatment modality once problems start, and is effective for erectile dysfunction but also performance improvements.
[46:59] – A P-Shot or platelet rich plasma is also popular. Judson explains exactly how this works. While it doesn’t seem to work as a single modality for treatment of erectile dysfunction, when combined with GAINSWave the combination can achieve better results.
[51:17] – Stacking treatment modalities creates an optimal solution. This is called triple therapy. Judson explains there are things that work, but won’t fix the underlying problem. It is best to focus on things that will offer a more permanent solution.
